SOAP

I am the wife of an Officer in the United States Air Force. His first deployment rocked my entire world and not in a good way. One of my favorite pictures ever taken was shot the day he left as we were saying goodbye. The photographer? My seven year old son.

When he came home, I wanted more than anything, not to have to worry about the pictures. I wanted those special moments captured, but more so, I wanted to be able to have my hands free to throw around my best friend. A hug after seven months was more important than a picture. I had several friends there with point and shoots that captured our moment of reunion for me and I am forever grateful.

A few months after my own Airman came home, we had to say good-bye to some friends headed for Afghanistan. Taking pictures of the send off was heart wrenching and a very real reminder that our country is at war and families are affected by deployments every single day.

In an effort to do something, to have a part in this thing, to make at least a small part of deployment easier, I came up with the idea of SOAP, Supporting Our Airmen Photography. I want to use what little bit of talent I have for good. To document the lives of our airmen as they sacrifice. To keep the arms of the spouses and children left behind free for hugs.

If you know of a deployment or homecoming taking place in the San Antonio area, please contact me at camportphotography(at)gmail(dot)com. I will travel to the airport and photograph the event free of charge(prints will be available for purchase).

I am a mother and wife first, photographer second. While I would love to photograph every single deployment send off and homecoming, it just isn't possible. Please give me as much notice as possible and I will do everything in my power to be there to document your life changing moments.
